"Hear this loud and well, Ganton! No longer will I be bound to the deceitful Empire! It shall fall!"

— Zarick to Admiral Ganton, leaving the Imperial Navy.

Zarick Adar was a Force-sensitive Arkanian-Human male born on Arkania and raised on Onderon. He became a soldier of the People's Galactic Alliance and sought to root out prominent forces threatening the very foundation of the Republic: democracy. Prior to military service, he trained within the Potentium Order on Zonama Sekot and reached knighthood at some point.

Biography

Onderon

Environmental instabilities on Arkania caused many of its inhabitants to leave the planet behind for good. Zarick's parents, Ghomjah and Haiye Adar, settled on Iziz, Onderon as a decent environment to raise their child, despite a few societial inconveniences. The father, a medical engineer, mostly supported Zarick while the mother tended to her duties as a Jedi Knight but stayed in touch frequently. While growing up on Onderon, the young Near-Human became acquainted with common violence and the law, an example which was when he and a group of delinquents formed a gang they called the "Bomb Star Clan." Before the clan's formation, they and many others were regularly terrorized by criminals stalking the neighborhood. As a group, these youths brutally punished criminals, fully clad in black uniforms that shrouded their appearances. Their charismatic human founder, Daniel Morosun, led them on these escapades.

The gang eventually roused the authorities. The Onderonian Royal Guard tried to catch and identify who the members were but Morosun and his gang eluded them well; they only operated at night. However, the gang was soon busted by a double agent during a special operation outside the guard tower, against the crooked Royal Guard Commander. The guardsmen prepared for Bomb Star Clan's arrival and stunned them with flash grenades. Each member fled different directions with their vision clouded while Zarick was the first to be arrested; his eyes were extremely sensitive to the intense light of the flashes, thus, he didn't escape very far. The gang spent their days at the detention grounds paying for their transgressions, though Zarick and Morosun were fortunate enough to be released earlier on account of good behavior.

The public regarded them as belligerent thugs, and in reaction, the boys put their time to good use with study and personal development. And, with his baby brother Gourah being highly impressionable, Zarick opted to be a suitable role model instead of spiraling down the wrong path. Haiye forbade him from leaving Onderon after hearing about his trouble with the law, but Ghomjah argued the detention grounds proved enough punishment. Once free, he traveled with his father across the galaxy and became accustomed to unique environments and cultures. On Kashykkk, they routinely hunted wild beasts and collected raw components with which they later conducted beneficial experiments. Yavin IV was another zone of interest, as Haiye Adar fulfilled her duties there as a Jedi Knight.

Mother

SWRP - Memories

Young Zarick and his mother.

As time progressed, Zarick became more versed in his education and even discovered his latent abilities in the Force. His mother once asked him if he was interested in training as her Padawan, though he refused because of his indifference toward Jedi matters, even though he leisurely studied a number of Jedi holocrons and possessed enough knowledge to undertake their lifestyle. Haiye was the only Jedi who intrigued him; not only was she an assertive negotiator on the job, she was also a gentle soul who cared for all forms of life, especially botany and exotic flowers. On one fateful night, Haiye was summoned by the Council to accept a dangerous mission, aided by a team of Knights, against Sith starfighters hovering over the planet. Haiye proved to be a keen pilot against tactical star fighters, as her strong perception in the Force ensured her team's survival.

Zarick received word of the orbital threat looming above the planet and anxiously rushed off to lend what little support he could provide, worried for his mother's safety, though the Sith starfighters proved a minor threat to Haiye and her strike force. However, the Sith were assisted by Mandalorian mercenaries, cloaked, and packing ion weaponry. Their ion cannons disabled Haiye and her strike force, leaving them helpless, and they could do nothing more than watch the Sith bombard them with blaster fire and destroy them in a fiery blaze. Just arriving to witness his mother's apparent death, Zarick angrily open-fired on the enemy, later accompanied by his father. Sixteen out of twenty mercenary starfighters were destroyed while the others withdrew. Zarick accomplished his mother's mission from the Council and helped stop the orbital threat over Yavin IV. Somehow, Haiye miraculously survived her aerial confrontation against the Sith orbital threat long ago, and she eventually made a heartfelt reunion with her two boys years after self-imposed exile on a remote world southeast of the Outer Rim.

The Imperial Navy

SL - Bakuran Guard 001 001

Ghomjah S. Adar, father of Zarick and former Commander of the Bakuran Royal Guard.

A few months passed after the incident on Yavin IV. Zarick's father received a job as security for the monarchy on Bakura and was rarely around to travel with him anymore. It left him alone for a while, but his urges for adventure kept him searching for something new to try. On a hot summer afternoon, Zarick walked around town and came across an Imperial Navy placard on the side of a market building. The poster portrayed the valiance of Imperial troops and a motto interpreting justice that the Empire promised to offer. Zarick was already aware of the Empire's notoriety, but it didn't prevent him from joining. He went to the nearest recruitment center and was screened, then attended the Imperial Naval Academy and furthered his education through the Imperial Naval College, tackling the basics of combat, naval operations, and drilling until it was etched into his memory.

A few years of basic training served Zarick well within the Imperial Military. He proved to be an exceptional pilot, which the stern Admiral Adrian Ganton occasionally applauded him for. Admiral Ganton was a battle-hardened workaholic who lead his squadron on deadly operations, forty light starships or so, against pirate hoards lingering near Imperial-protected worlds, and overtime, the battles intensified each time the pirates doubled in number. Zarick and the starfleet were bombarded by rains of blaster fire on one fateful operation. Black Sun pirates gathered in aggressive packs and blasted Imperial fighters away from the battle. Zarick was fortunate enough to survive amongst all the explosions and blaster fire lighting up the void of space. As the battle continued from afar, Zarick drifted while attempting to repair his TIE Oppressor's engine before the pirates could locate and finish him. Repairs were a minor success, and he drifted away in regard to his own life to the closest planet nearby: Yavin IV. Residents below watched the TIE Fighter dock by the river. The local authorities approached Zarick as he jumped from the cockpit, recognized his Stormtrooper armor, and escorted him to a holding cell for questioning.

The Jedi sensed doubt growing in Zarick, questioning whether he was completely devout to the Empire. They elaborated on the Empire's reputation, its predominant origin, and its goal of bringing Sith rule to the galaxy. His reply to this was, "I no longer pledge allegiance to such authority," and he discarded his Stormtrooper armor. Everyone in the hall smiled on his choice. The Jedi showed him the warmest hospitality and provided him food, bath, and new sets of clothes. After, he and a team investigated the battered TIE Fighter. They received an incoming transmission from Admiral Ganton. Ganton addressed the disloyalty he heard from Zarick over the active transmitter not confiscated by the Jedi, and was labeled an outlaw of the Galactic Empire. Zarick gave his reply into the comm, "Hear this loud and well, Ganton! No longer will I be bound to the deceitful Empire! It shall fall!" Afterward, he reached under the cockpit and grabbed a lightfoil, with which he ignited and violently slashed at the craft until it was reduced to large fragments.

"The Savages"

Spring soon hit, and Zarick decided to visit the old temple across the river. Six rogue Force-users occupied an old, ruined temple as their territory. They intended to mug him and dump his body in the river but failed to do so when Zarick fought back. The gang's leader realized his potential and did not believe their encounter with Zarick was a coincidence. In time, this band of rogue Force-users befriended him and initiated him as their seventh member. They called him "Dusk" because of his blue tunic and dark complexion. As a group, they were nicknamed "The Savages" by local Jedi on account of their hostile actions and behavior. Their leader was a tall, clever Human male called "Neeso," a mysterious master of the Force. He helped strengthen Zarick’s connection to the Force and allowed him time to master basic techniques, then setting up an obscure challenge called the "Seven Trials of Courage" as his final test. All together, these seven rogues fought intense battles with persistent Sith visitors.

Neeso's group was eventually wiped out after a widespread battle began between the Jedi and Sith invaders. Neeso and Zarick evaded the Sith by setting elaborate traps during their escape. The two survivors lured their pursuers to minefields they set to keep trespassers away from their hideout, killing them instantly. They dusted off the minions hunting them, but their strong connection to the Force attracted an experienced Sith Master. She called out to them, enticing in appearance and voice, proposing they join forces with her. Neeso and Zarick sensed deception in her words. It prompted them to refuse her offer, with which she replied, "Fine. You will suffer the consequences for refusing me!" All three removed their cloaks, activated their lightsabers, and battled furiously. At the outcome of the three-way duel, Neeso was caught off-guard and impaled by a quick thrust to the chest.

Shocked, Zarick yelled to the wounded Neeso but received no reply. He raged, retrieved his slain friend's lightsaber, and charged at the Sith Master. The strength and speed of the first three strikes caught the Sith off guard while the last strikes successfully hacked off her left leg and arm. Zarick approached the injured Sith Master to deliver the finishing blow, but without further delay, she fired lightning at him whilst tossing him over a precipice to the depths of the forest below. The Force guided him safely on his long descent.

The Potentium

Nightfall drew near. Five hours passed since Zarick lied there, burned and unconscious, on a cold trail under the trees. As he awoke, he spotted a tall figure within the distance ahead of the abandoned trail. Zarick searched his utility belt for his lightsaber to signal the stranger but found nothing; the Sith Master he previously faced disarmed him of it. However, he made use of an emergency flare and managed to alert the stranger. The two talked awhile, both seeming unusually calm despite their encounter, and a plan was in order. Zarick was carefully lifted aboard the man's ship that set course into the Unknown Regions, and they touched down on a mysterious planet, but it seemed not a single person was in sight. The stranger left a short while and came back with a medical capsule with which he rushed Zarick to a medical facility. The medical center was empty as well. The stranger examined the patient's injuries, wiped away the blood thoroughly, and placed him into a healing tank. An hour and a half later, the rescuer helped him out and claimed to be a Knight of the Potentium Order. He escorted Zarick to a meditation spot atop a large hill where other residents sat in discussion. He met Master Flint Mokeev, Magister Salene Lusch, and Potentium Knight Toad Freck for the first time.

Padawan Za

Teen Zarick as a Potentium Apprentice.

Life on Zonama Sekot was an opportunity for Zarick to continue his training and unlock his potential in the Force. Toad Freck selected him as an apprentice and taught him the disciplines of the Potentium Code. Zarick faced a timeless series of trials as an apprentice, one of his most cherished experiences, and reached knighthood before least expecting it. He left Zonama some time after and sought Onderon after receiving a transmission from his father, and the two agreed to meet near their old home. Zarick encountered his younger brother Gourah on the way there, and all three reunited.

SL - Memories

Zarick experienced a countless series of events in the Potentium Order, most of which were too extensive to document altogether. The council masters assigned him missions alongside powerful allies such as Potentium Master Ford Potez, Potentium Knight Cobalt Ra'ann, Potentium Master Nina, and others.

Sith encounters

SL - Duel

Potentium Knight Zarick and his cousin duel for the first time.

Zarick encountered the Sith numerous times as a Potentium Knight, more so than durng his membership in the "Savages." The elusive Crimson Blade Sith Order swayed Zarick's cousin, Allen Stonesoul, to darkness and pitted the two against each another. Zarick, accompanied by Daniel Morosun, sought to turn Stonesoul from the dark side but without much succession.

Lightsaber duel

Zarick and Morosun face off against Stonesoul.

Allen, having gained an insatiable thirst for power, defeated Zarick upon their first duel but nearly fell during the second with Morosun joining the fight. The third time, however, Allen hesitated as he tried to sway Zarick to the Sith ideology using mind control during a pause in swordplay. It didn't phase him; he had spent a great deal training ever since their first duel. Allen lost his composure over this and shot waves of lightning at him for Zarick to then redirect the waves back at him and finally strike down the arrogant Sith at last.

Zarick approached the injured Sith not to deliver the death blow, but to save him. Unbeknown to both fighters, Allen's master evaluated the duel from beginning to end. The man applauded Zarick's performance, kneeling down to retrieve his beaten apprentice. He stated, "I will take him back and finish this myself." Zarick objected and chased the Sith all the way back to Jaratenge. He arrived to a temple occupied by a dozen robed figures. The promise was fulfilled and Allen Stonesoul was ritually excuted much to Zarick's displeasure. The temple master spotted him just outside the entrance and sounded the alarms. He then made a hasty withdraw back to Zonama Sekot with a heavy heart.

The People's Galactic Alliance

The Revenant Armada, operating under Sith influence, made swift progress in gaining influence throughout the Galactic Core. The People's Galactic Alliance, formerly the Republic Liberation Forces, vowed to defend all peoples in the face of this looming threat, in addition to the Galactic Empire and the Imperial Remnant. Promising volunteers, one after another, stepped forth to fight for the Republic. One of these hopefuls was Zarick Adar. In his knighthood on Zonama, Zarick overheard the countless exploits of the PGA and its forebearer, Selkisto Horten.

While visiting his father on Bakura, the stories he heard were confirmed. A violent skirmish between several Revenant Mauraders and four PGAF Marines erupted on the street. Zarick and his father, former Commander of the Bakuran Royal Guard, took part in the conflict. They witnessed the impeccable finess these Marines had over their foes, dispatching Mauraders attempting to infiltrate the palace. Zarick, taken by inspiration over this scene, sought involvement in the Republic. He left his family and friends behind to help fight a war unlike any he had ever experienced, armed with knowledge from his past services.

Within time, he was interviewed by PGAF Recruiter Gene Vaniva and underwent basic training for two months. As a sentinel of Nova Squad, he took part in risky operations on Alaris Prime and Nar Shaddaa to thwart Revenant intelligence. Despite rumor of the PGA's collapse, Zarick continued serving for some time and acknowledged the entity as a federally-maintained army on the few planets still part of the alliance, such as Talus and Coruscant. On another note, he became an intimate companion with a mysterious woman during his service, named Yunami, an Empire defector who chose to fight for the Republic. The two bonded to the point of romance, however, their time together was cut short when she disappeared.

Personality and traits

Zarick Adar

Za studying in his room.

Zarick was a serene young man and a genuine ally who stood by his principles without dissuasion. He was once described as a man of fews words and typically faced most problems with a practical, no-nonsense approach and let logic fill in missing holes. His average activities included crafting gadgets, playing a good game of Pazaak, reading, and meditating in solitude over events experienced throughout the day. Opposing his calm and collected nature was his cold attitude toward Mandalorians, stereotypically claiming the mainstream of them were "a bunch of misfits." The Sith additionally became an object of his malice, given their dark, ideological agenda and never-ending conquest over independent systems across the stars.

Zarick stood at an average height and appeared fit due to years of exercise in the military. His hair was a dark shade of gray, he bore a dark skin tone like his mother, little facial hair grew below his jaw, and a thin scar extended across his left cheek. The most unusual feature were Zarick's eyes, which supposedly allowed him to see into the infrared spectrum thanks to his Arkanian ancestry. His wardrobe included a variety of clothing while his usual outfit consisted of a white tracker utility vest with a nametag, a black zipped jacket underneath with the sleeves rolled up, white pants, and a pair of standard black boots. He also sported a silver armband on his right forearm bearing the Potentium symbol.

Powers and abilities

Zarick repaired AI technology and standard vehicles at an efficient level based on his studies at Iziz Technical Academy. He was a natural fighter on account of military training and has used life-saving survival methods in the cruelest of trials, especially during bouts as an Imperial Pilot and a PGAF Marine. Time as a Potentium follower strengthened his extrasensory perception in the Force, also polishing his craftsmanship and combat training with the lightsaber until it became an aesthetic display for those bearing witness. He frequently used his custom-made lightsaber for whatever aggressive disputes arose, calling the weapon "Way to the Dusk" because of its dark design and a reflection of his inner darkness, also developing his own unique battle form while training under experienced masters such as Toad Freck, Salene Lusch, Flint Mokeev, Susallia Arida, and Master Nina. Zarick also spoke and wrote decently in other languages such as Huttese, some Arkanian, and Durese.

Equipment

Zarick mostly carried a survival kit while some items became sentimental keepsakes. His contained a custom single-hilt lightsaber, a Velmoran energy sword, a DL-2000 blaster pistol, batteries, a comlink, a datapad, a Potentium badge, an I.D. card, a dark-blue crystal, a sage-green crystal, and a canteen.

Weaknesses

Zarick's hereditary weakness was his eyes. They were extremely sensitive to intense heat or light and forced him to don a blinder at times. He was also allergic to spice and Sagebrush and would catch a severe case of hives after close contact. Also, as a mere mortal, he's naturally susceptible to injury and the galaxy's most dreaded diseases.
