SWRPEDIA - Second Life Star Wars Roleplay Wiki

The so-called Successor States rose with the fall of the Imperial Republic, formed in response to the rampages of the Revenant Armada. The most prominent of these were:

  • The Imperial Remnant States (Including the Talmerith Empire, Fel Empire, Tarkin Regieme, Imperial Conclave, Imperial Remnant, as well as the current Unified Galactic Empire)
  • The second Dual Velmoran-Onderon Monarchy (with their Mon Calamari allies, and encompassing Corellia and Talus), following the declining PGA.
  • The Hydian Exarchate of Eriadu, encompassing Eriadu, New Tibannopolis over Bespin and Alzoc III
  • The Legions of Lettow and the New Kashi 2nd Regional Hegemony
  • Independent Bastion
  • The Imperial Remnants, Including the Kuat Hegemony.
  • The Sith-Revenant Alliance
  • The Onderon Jedi Dynasty

As can be seen from the map from Fragments, the situation in the year(s) following the fall of Coruscant to the Revenant Armada involved a vast restructuring of the galactic political map. While the Republic (the Peoples Galactic Alliance- shown in gray) and it's allies among the Imperial Remnants appear to have the largest holdings, they lacked the cohesiveness of the Revenant and their Sith allies. Indeed, several Remnant states proceeded to raise up Imperial Pretenders, and fight among themselves for supremacy rather than turning their attention to the threat from the Revenant and the Sith. So too, many of the independent states (orange on the map) represent large areas that had in fact fallen into chaos, piracy and brigandage, leaving large areas of the galaxy cut off from vital trade. This would set the stage for further fragmentation.

Fragments of the Empire, Middle Period

As the repercussions of the reconfiguration of galactic core polities continued to sweep outward, political change swept over the rest of the galaxy as far as the outer rim. Several basic patterns emerged:

  1. Political allegiance to either the Republic or the Revenant.
  2. The rise of independent planets and regions
  3. The relative breakdown of order and the rise of independent, nomadic pirate fleets and armadas
  4. The rise of rogue military units (disenfranchised Imperial Legions, Mandalorian aliits, mercenaries and militarized criminal gangs).

Rise of the Tetan Aristocracy[]

As the Revenant sought to normalize its presence in the galactic core, more and more administrative functions were handed off to the Tetan Nobility. The tightly structured Tetan Court, while ideally configured for a closed, in-system monarchy, was hard put to meet the challenge of supplanting the older Imperial system. To avoid being relagated to ineffectiveness, the Tetan Nobility was forced to rely increasingly on administrative and political structures already at hand, either Imperial holdovers, or other trade and financial institutions that had existed under the auspices of the Imperial Republic.

The Rise of the New Republic[]

The Rise of the New Republic marks the end of the period of the The Fragmentation of the Imperium, with the rise of a genuine Jedi Republic.

Historians will never be able to categorize this as a period of genuine peace and prosperity, rather, as a period when a Republic modeled on the old ideal existed for a period centered on Coruscant. An over view of the galactic map of this period can be helpful.

The Rise of the New Republic, following the Fragmentation of the Imperium, ca 201103

PGA fortunes continued to fade, with major defections and several revolts. Retreating a second time to Rhen Var, the PGA Old Republic continued, but as a Republic in name only. Now relying on its still formidable military powers, the PGA Old Republic began to resemble more the Imperial Remanant it had once sought to replace.

Imperial Remnants continued to appear in various places in the galaxy, as the idea of the old Imperium still held sway over the minds of the peoples of the galaxy. As can be seen from the map, the majority of these were centered around the old Imperial Ords- the supply and fleet depots of the ancient Empire. An exception was the old Krayt holdover on Tatooine and in the Vergasso Asteroid belt.

The disintegration of Huttila's Hordes following the death of Huttila the Hutt freed up a great deal of real estate in and around Hutt space. The Black Sun, reorganized, emerged as powerful as ever, manipulating and jockeying for position among several powerful Hutt clans. The Toydarian Conglomerates were finally able to assert themselves, though as more of a commercial entity, and the Bothan Monarchy and the great Bothan network arose as a political power in its own right.

While the CIS Federation billed itself as a commonwealth of trade interests, the Baron Administrator Rhialto of New Tibannopolis orbiting Bespin managed to hold together the pieces of the Hydian Exarchates which has lost most of their lustre following the destabilization of the government of Eriadu.

Curiously, Bakura held itself aloof during this period. Though active in its search for strategic materials for the GAR, the GAR, and the Bakuran monarchy seemed preoccupied with internal reorganization and remained content to stay on the sidelines, while occasionally caught up in the intrigues of the Tetan Imperial Court.

The changes within the Tetan Empire were significant. The expulsion of the Revenant Armada, the lessening influence of the Sith and the growing independence of the Empress Keto led to a gradual realignment of this ancient Empire, with its brilliant court life.

The Sith continued to be a looming presence in the galaxy, with centers on Byss, Vjun, Ziost, Korriban, Vjun and elsewhere. Not content with their already immesne power, the Sith did not hesitate to infiltrate, subvert and invade wherever they could gain a foothold.

In the face of provocations from the Dark Side, the Jedi of Yavin IV broke out of their isolation, joined forces with The Onderon Jedi Dynasty, and gave their full support to Chancellor Ma'at Nephthys (former Queen of Bakura) of the New Republic. Joined by the Jedi of Kesh and Dantooine, the New Republic was born.

The New Republic at its outset had little depth, existing more as a Jedi protectorate over the rest of the galaxy. While in contact with the many Jedi orders, the New Republic is not considered to represent a true Jedi Renaissance, an event which would come much later.

The Glitterstim Chronicles[]

Another curious work that covered this time period of galactic history, albeit in an idiosyncratic fashion, were the Glitterstim Chronicles These loosely linked series of monographs chronicle such disparate events as the Second Hutt Renaissance, the efforts of the Intergalactic Banking Clan to salvage the New Republic, the steady rise of the Tetan Empire and the emergence of New Tibannopolis as a regional power along the lower Hydian Way.

There is much debate concerning the authorship of these chronicles, which often appear to be the work of several authors. Though they appear to be written in an archaic Ryloth-Twilekki style, many of the surviving records were found in old ECB archives on Eriadu during a time period when faux archaic art forms were all the vogue on Eriadu. Counter-arguments rely heavily on the inclusion of authentic Hutt poetry in the works, employing both high and low Varlese.

Whatever the origin and authorship of these works, they are considered authentic enough to use to gain further understanding of this time period, while bearing in mind that the particular style was generally used to portray intimate and heroic historical portraits that do not constitute an exact historical rendering or fully reflect actual historical events in an unmediated manner. All in all, the Glitterstim Chronicles is yet another useful tool for students of this historical period.

Rise of the Shadow Empire[]

The Rise of the Shadow Empire marks the end of the Successor States period. The Shadow Empire is marked by an increase in Sith activity and the expansion of the Sith Empire, along with the 2nd Hutt Renaissance, or, Great Hutt Renaissance, along the lower Corellian.
