On Second Life, a group is a structure allowing a list of people
- display a group title above the head of the avatar
- host and manage land
- send and receive information by posts
- group wide chatting
A group may have up to 10 ranks, with different titles and privileges. Most role-play organizations use the Second Life group system for ranking their members and keep a link between them.
Avatars may be in several groups at the same time, thus being in groups from different factions may be prohibited by some groups, as being a open door for metagaming.
