The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) is a Star Wars roleplaying group in Second Life.

History

From humble beginnings

The Grand Army of the Republic was founded on May 15th 2005 by the current Clone Commanders, Yuri Fonzarelli and Koukla Twilight.

The armor was constructed by Commander Fonzarelli in a shop named ACNE Co, At that time Yuri had no idea of what he had accidentally created - The armor of what would become the largest army in Second Life!

Soon clones gathered at ACNE and Yuri had no choice but to create a group for these armor buyers to communicate - and the Grand Army of the Republic was born!

In the early days the GAR was homeless and used to spend time camping in combat sims around SL, however with growing numbers the Commanders decided to allow the Clones to use ACNE as their temporary home whilst a more permanent home could be found. It was at this stage the first clone council was formed, 5 Shock troopers were appointed them being, Keith Daguerre, Stillpink sandgrain, Amanda Black Marth Rocco, and the only one still in GAR Seargent Hedges

The era of Hughes

New land was then acquired in a sim called Hughes, GAR flourished in Hughes and numbers grew, Hughes served the GAR well, however GAR soon outgrew the land and GAR was forced to move to a larger area

A Shock Trooper named Marth Rocco purchased a sim which he called Coruscant and GAR moved to the sim, however Marth became greedy and power hungry, the GAR refused to bow to his demands and he left the group taking GAR’s home with him.

The era of Agirus

The next stage was to move to a sim called Agirus, GAR quickly bought up a lot of land in the sim and the engineers built a fine base. Again numbers of clone troopers grew to record breaking levels and high levels of activity were a regular thing

Again due to some disagreements between members, this land was lost…

The GAR moved back to its former home in ACNE were it regrouped from the blow of again losing its home and headquarters.

Cakhmaim

Main article: Bakura

Then came the beginning of a new era for GAR, we arrived in Cakhmaim, the base is owned by the GAR group and not any one individual, therefore the land is safe from SL politics and will be the long term home of the Grand Army for the foreseeable future!

GAR Company's

Udesla Company

Udesla Company makes up the main infantry/army portion of the Grand Army of the Republic.

724th Platoon

The 724th Platoon is the backbone of the Grand Army of the Republic - its heart, spirit and discipline. The 724th is made of high-speed specialized troopers who go where no others do and perform where no others can. Primarily a ground-force platoon, the 724th is known for fielding the best in any situation requiring infantry maneuvers.

The 724th Platoon, or the Infantry, adheres strictly to the Clone Code of Conduct while also exhibiting the core values of Freedom, Justice and Liberty. Wherever the fight is, the 724th will be there, giving everything it's got.

The Infantry is currently divided into two squads, the Omega squad and the Gamma squad, each of them a specialized infantry unit for specific environments where highly-trained soldiers are needed.

Gamma

The scout and reconnaissance squad of the 724th Infantry - Gamma is often deployed to jungle, forest or swampy environments requiring fatigues and finesse. The scout troopers of Gamma squad are amongst the highest trained soldiers in the Grand Army of the Republic, relying not so much on heavy equipment, but rather speed, precision, skill and tactics. When the GAR needs a more specially-trained unit in those dense floral areas requiring greater vision and guerilla tactics, that's where Gamma squad will be found.

Omega

The paratroopers, or airborne troopers of the 724th Infantry and the hammer of GAR - Omega squad are troopers specially-trained for high-altitude drops into combat areas. These troopers are significant because a gunship is not required to land to get these troops on the battlefield. Capable of dropping in and ambushing enemy lines from behind, these troopers are deadly when used accurately. High-speed Airborne Infantry, Omega squad members are also trained in combat life-saving techniques as well as rescue and extraction. Whenever GAR needs to hit fast and hard, Omega squad lays down the hammer.

501'st Platoon

The 501st Consists of many reason mostly Secruity and close and long range combat. We the 501st fight for the Glory and our Brothers at hand, We Bleed Blue blood... If we die we always take you with us no matter what the Cost!

Our existance exist for only one purpose , that is to Defend the Republic the GAR itself. Our troops are trained to Kill those who stops us , and those who picks a fight, will not live to see another day. Our Squads uses teamwork and only Teamwork to finish the job, There is no I , only we the 501st Secruity and Special Ops forces. Contain the Best, and Only the Best. without us they will be no Sustainable Society.

Sigma

A Law Enforcement Squad that specializes in enforcing law on the planet they are stationed. Sigma Squad is the shield of the Grand Army of the Republic. It is a specialized security force that protects the Queen of Bakura and her Royals. While acting as the forefront defensive line for the throne, Sigma Squad also withholds and prevents attacks on the high command. In order to properly defend to the best of it's ability, Sigma Squad specializes in long range combat and weaponry.

Omicron

A First Strike Force Squad that specialises in detaining and seeking out terrorists and criminals on the planet they are station on. Omicron squad is the iron fist of the 501st Platoon In the Grand army of the republic Omicron is a strike force that seeks and deals with any sort of threat to the planet that they are currently on, Omicron also acts as an invasion force to take/patrol/assault Planets.

Omicron Squad Specializes in Mid to Long Range weapons I.E DC-15s or E-11 Carbine, Omicron Squad Uses the Mid to Long range weapons as a tactical advantage to be on the battlefield more alert and focused on whats going to be very close to them, rather then not having to worry at a very far distance, which would make you floosy while with the Mid to Long Range Youd have to worry about things constantly in your face making you more alert.

A'denla Company

A'Denla Company comes from the Mando'a word for 'Vengeful', matching the ferocity of the clones that inhabit the A'Denla company. They form the Navy of the Grand Army of the Republic, and are essential for any space operations. Identified by their purple colored armor, they are united by far more than the colors that they wear. Each part of the company is critical towards overall success, and complement each other perfectly.

A'Denla company is comprised of two platoons, each having its own unique skills and strengths. The 21st Marines are the heavy hitters on the ground, sure to provide the immense firepower needed for any assault or ship boarding party. The 333rd are the flyboys, taking to the sky in every sized craft imaginable, be it a tiny BA-9 Interceptor, or gigantic Venator Class Star Destroyers. Together, they can take the fight to the sky or on the ground. Anywhere, everywhere, A'Denla Company is ready for action!

333rd Platoon

The 333rd Naval Platoon serves as the crewman for the many capital ships and much smaller starfighters in the Grand Army fleet. When it comes to providing air support or engaging enemy ships in space conflicts, the 333rd is the platoon for the mission.

Living by the values of Strength, Integrity, and Excellence, clones of the 333rd try to set an example of what every clone should be in the Grand Army. Other platoons depend on their skills to provide watchful protection from the air and to deliver supplies and reinforcements to the battlefield.

Divided into two squads, Epsilon and Tyrian, each perform essential roles in the function of the fleet.

Epsilon

These are the proud crewmen of the large capital ships, controlling such amazing vessels as the Venator Star Destroyers. They are tasked with ensuring that the capital ships are operated proficiently so that they may engage other large enemy ships and secure the galaxy from invading fleets. Through them, the power of G.A.R. is extended far beyond our bases and outposts.

Tyrian

The starfighter pilots of the fleet, they are the most skilled and professional of clones, trained to the highest of expectations. They go into the skies knowing that every action they take could mean life or death in the span of an instant. It takes nerves of steal and a quick wit to engage enemy fighters in the sky and to provide precision air support for ground forces.


21'st Platoon

The 21st is the Muscle and Power behind GAR, doing everything from dropping behind enemy lines and engaging the enemy to support fire. The 21st is separated into Alpha Squad and Tau squad. To put things simply, if there's an ass that GAR needs kicked, we kick it into orbit.

The 21st Platoon or Galactic Marines is the first to be called when ground or space threats arise. Clone Marines an provide the first and last lines of defense on the battlefield, the first called in when a battle erupts, at any corner of the Galaxy the Marines are the first to the fight, when something needs to get done right, the 21st is the platoon for the job!

The Marines together are amongst the elite of the Grand Army of the Republic, the other platoons rely on their extensive knowledge of battlefield tactics to get the mission done!, it is divided into two squads Alpha and Tau, both use their specialized skills to sweep the battlefield.

Alpha Squad

The fighting soldiers of the 21st - The Galactic Marines in Alpha Squad are the backbone of the 21st and the fighting arm of the Purple Legion. They trained in the finer aspects of ranged and melee combat forms, with these skills they are be prepared for any encounter long range or close-quarters. They called upon to drop into high risk battle scenarios and end the fight before it gets out of hand. Whether Land or Space, Alpha Squad is called in "When 'Good enough' won't do"

Tau Squad

The covert operatives of the 21st Marines - Galactic Marines who have proved themselves on the battlefield and have demonstated advanced skills are given the opportunity to advance to Tau Squad, Tau Squad members are equiped to provide a preemptive role on the battlefield, when most platoons are preparing for battle, Tau Squad is already deployed behind enemy lines, Tau Squad operatives are called upon to preform the role of a recon unit, tasked with detailing the enemy on a accurate level. amongst their other duties will be to use the art of sabotage to hinder the enemy by any means possible. The role of an elite Tau Squad operative is of vital importance as with the skills they have, they may stop battles before they even begin.

Notable GAR Officers

Orange Commander Yuri Fonzarelli

The founder of GAR, as well as the GAR's active commander until recently. Yuri was known to have original ideas and to do what his troops wanted to see happening. He retired from active duty May 15 2010 leaving the leadership of the Grand Army to the newly re-established Clone Council, after doing his best to make GAR keep running after his departure.

Purple Commander Koukla Twilight

The original commander of the purple legion (renamed Navy) and co founder of GAR, Koukla played a far less active role in the later years of the Grand Army, becoming more of an icon rather than an active leader. Koukla had been respected and appreciated untill GAR became more military focused, "where members became less mature and self centered" (claimed by the older members). Koukla retired with Yuri.

ARC Dino

Advanced Recon Commando Dino was one of the first officers in GAR, achiving his rank very early in GAR's life, and was active for the first year or two of GAR's life, falling into inactivity, like Koukla, becoming more of an icon than an active leader within the Grand Army's chain of command. Dino came back end 2009 (date unclear), to the dismay of the chain of command of the time, bringing along with him the old ways of GAR, the ways that the majority of clones of the time had seen as the less professional Grand Army.

(Navy) Lieutenant Commander Green

Lieutenant Commander Green, joined the Grand Army in early-mid 2008, working up the ranks of GAR Via the old (and actual) system. Working with other officers and senior NCO's of the time, Lieutenant Commander Green was one of the essential architects of a version of the Grand Army Rank Structure that copied real life armies (that was not welcome but still applied http://z4.invisionfree.com/Grand_Army_SL/index.php?showtopic=640), Companies, and the founder of the Navy, which turned the pilot department into a platoon and created the 21st platoon.

Lieutenant Commander Green Retired and left the Grand Army May 18 2010. He said GAR became boring and immature prior to his departure

Since then, the company structure has been accused of causing huge problems to the Grand Army, and the Rank Structure has been reverted to what it used to be.

(Army) Captain Senkon Aeon (Church)

Captain Senkon (Church) similarly to green joined the Grand Army early-mid 2008, working up the ranks quickly within the Grand Army. He has brought Ventrilo to the Grand Army. On his early days, while he was working under Necrophage, a lot of members did not like what they were turning GAR into and left. Working closely with Green, Gabrial Xue, and Unlived Beck, the four of them forged the current (2009) Grand Army. One of Senkon's most notable achievements was forcing the Grand Army into a new type of roleplay, where instead of being a character, you play many characters, and forcing the concept of IC and OOC.

Church retired from his posistion of Captain may 2010, later promoted for valiant duty by High Command. Church then left the Grand Army october 2010.
